Theme: Help build awareness of computer security problems and what to do about them. Submit posters and videos that explain computer security problems and specific actions college and university students can take to safeguard their computers or personal information. Ideas for topics include...
1. Botnets, 2. Computer maintenance, 3. Cybersafety tips: how to protect yourself online, including on social networking sites, 4. Encrypting files/e-mails, 5. Global cybercrime: includes identity theft, extortion, denial of service, and web defacement, 6. Guidelines or suggestions for effective passwords, 7. Physical security, 8. Safeguarding data: confidentiality, privacy, and identity theft, 9. Security of wireless/mobile devices, 10. Security risks of P2P filesharing applications, 11. Security updates, antivirus software, and firewalls, 12. Spyware and phishing
Open to: College or university students worldwide.
Deadline: 30 April 2009
Prize: Gold winners: $1,000, Silver winners: $800, Bronze winners: $400.
 

Xperimania Competition
Theme: Set up an easy and fun experiment in science relating to petrochemistry, materials and properties.
Open to: All schools in the European Union, candidate countries and EFTA countries are invited to join in.
Deadline: 30 April 2009
Prize: TBA

Archon X PRIZE for Genomics
Theme: build a device and use it to sequence 100 human genomes within 10 days or less,
Open to: This competition is open to any team, from any discipline, anywhere in the world,
Deadline: Eligible TEAMs can begin an ATTEMPT only on January 15th or July 15th in any calendar year.
Prize: $10 million.

World Handwriting Contest
About the contest: Two quotes are provided for the contestants to write. Contestants under age 12 should write out the shorter of the two copy-quotes. Contestants ages 13 and older should write out the longer copy-quote.
Who May Enter:Anyone in the world, age 8 or over, may enter the World Handwriting Contest.
Deadlines: The World Handwriting Contest accepts entries each year from January 1 until June 30. To qualify for prizes in a given year, an entry must arrive on or before June 30 of that year.
Prizes: WHC will award first and second prizes in each of these categories and subcategories.
